The Not So Birthday Way

If you are anything like my hubby, then you don’t want people making a big deal out of your birthday, yet you still want them to make a small fuss.  So, for the Not So Party – Partier, I like to make small event trays, baskets, boxes, bags, etc.  

Since my hubby loves working on our backyard garden, the kids and I each picked out some seeds that we plan to help him plant.  I helped the kids paint their terra cotta pots black and then I personalized the pots with each of their birth days.  Since my hubby isn’t into cake (how can you not like cake?), I made his favorite dessert, apple bars.  I individually wrapped them in wax paper and black ribbon.  Lastly, I quickly designed a birthday card and printed it out on my home printer (adding our personal messages inside).

THE TAKE AWAY:  I think that everybody cares about their birthday, even if it’s just a little bit.  It doesn’t take much money, time, or effort to put together something that lets someone special know that you care while still respecting their wishes of not going too big.  Even when they say ‘don’t bother’, always bother!
